Statement on US and Global Turmoil

August 15, 2017

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester express sadness and deep concern over the recent turmoil among fellow Americans as well as between the governments of the United States and North Korea. We pray for all of those affected by the horrific acts of violence and hatred in Charlottesville, Virginia. The belief that all humanity is to be revered is a basic tenet of our faith. We join the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in discerning the Gospel call to embody love for the sake of the world. We also support LCWR’s public statement regarding ongoing tensions between the US and North Korea, which can be found at www.lcwr.org. At this critical moment for our country and global community, we pray for constructive dialogue, peace and compassion as we work towards healing and uniting as one.

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester is a community of Roman Catholic women religious. Serving our neighbors, all people no matter who they are or where they find themselves is our mission. We serve in 12 counties of the Diocese of Rochester, rural Alabama and Brazil. More information about the Sisters of Saint Joseph and its ministries can be found at www.ssjrochester.org or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
