SSJ Receives New Appointment at Nazareth College

November 6, 2017

Congratulations to Sister Susan E. Nowak on her appointment to the endowed William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies at Nazareth College. Sister Susan, currently the Chair of Nazareth’s Religious Studies department, begins her four-year term in the fall of 2018. She said she believes that the Shannon Chair contributes in important ways as students explore the meaning and significance of their religious beliefs and practices: “The Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies is a vital dimension of the academic study of religion at Nazareth College, keeping the Roman Catholic intellectual tradition alive through course work, lectures, conferences, and scholarly publications. It captures the dynamic vision and focus that the study of religion was given by our founding Sisters.”

The Chair is currently held by Christine M. Bochen, professor of Religious Studies at Nazareth College and noted Thomas Merton scholar.
