Annunciation House, a house of hospitality for the refugee and immigrant poor in El Paso, Texas, opened its doors in 1978. The Catholic non-profit was named by Mother Theresa and has been directed by Ruben Garcia since its inception.

Rochesterians Michael Brennan and Catherine Burke have been volunteering intermittently at Annunciation House since 1985. Michael served on the Board of Directors for six years, and Michael & Catherine spent a year directing the largest AH shelter in 2019-2020. They have returned to El Paso twice a year since, most recently February 9 -19.

Annunciation House is facing an outrageous attack from Governor Greg Abbott through his Attorney General, to close Annunciation House. Hear from Michael and Catherine as they share their personal experience of working at the border and why it's critical to keep the shelters open.
