SSJs Host Inspirational Sister from India

Sister Patricia Schoelles, SSJ, welcomes Sister Lucy Kurien (right) and her traveling assistant, Lucien Petersen, to the Motherhouse

The Sisters were honored to recently welcome Sister Lucy Kurien as a guest at the Motherhouse. Sister Lucy, a Holy Cross nun from India, was a featured speaker for the Nazareth University Shannon lecturer series on March 7-8.

Sister Lucy is the founder and director of Maher, or "Mother's House," a community and interfaith organization for abused and destitute women, children, and men headquartered in Pune, India. Since its founding in 1997, Maher has helped thousands of people with spiritual guidance, shelter, and sustenance.

Many of our Sisters had a chance to meet with Sister Lucy during her stay and hear about her continued work to help those in need. She also learned about the SSJ ministries that do similar work locally such as St. Joseph Northside, St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center and Bethany House, a collaborative partner in ministry.
