As part of an ongoing effort to address racism and better understand
how we, often unknowingly, participate in the system of structural racism, the
SSJ Justice and Peace Committee shares with you an extraordinary opportunity
through the Rochester faith community. “Building the Beloved Community: Racism
and Beyond” is an intensive workshop that explores the historical, foundational
and practical aspects of addressing racism. Presented by Sister Patricia
Chappell, SNDdeN, Executive Director, and Sister Anne-Louise Nadeau, SNDdeN,
Director of Programs, of Pax Christi USA, the two-day workshop focuses on why
talking about racism is difficult, how history has influenced our role in the universal
nature of racism, and what steps we can take in moving forward.
Our Congregation is a co-sponsor of this event and will host Sisters
Patricia and Anne-Louise at the Motherhouse. The workshop will take place at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and
Ministry on April 12 from 2 to 5 PM and April 13 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Please
note that persons who sign up must attend both sessions. Registration is $25
for individuals and $15 for students.
