Congratulations to Sister Susan Nowak on being named Nazareth College’s “Distinguished Colleague” for 2021! Sister Susan is a professor in Religious Studies and the William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies at Nazareth. The “Distinguished Colleague” award—annually voted on by faculty from a pool of nominees—acknowledges excellence in a faculty member who promotes a positive attitude toward the academic life, providing inspiration and support to both students and colleagues. According to one fellow faculty member’s summary of Sister Susan’s gifts, she does just that: “(She is) a colleague who embodies the very best of Nazareth. Susan, your vision, integrity, dedication, honesty, hopefulness, commitment to justice, and compassion inspire and challenge us all.” Sister Susan is the sixth SSJ to receive the award. Sisters Magdalen LaRow, Marion Hoctor, Joan Margaret Kunz, Josepha Kennedy, and Monica Weis have all previously held the honor.
