New SJH Award Honors SSJ

St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY is honoring its founder, Sister Rose Alice Conway, SSJ (1875-1939), with a new award. The Sister Rose Alice Award has been developed exclusively for the staff based at the SJH campus. SJH staff are invited to nominate their colleagues who "emulates one or more of the virtues of Sister Rose Alice, including vision, perseverance, leadership and dedication. Sister Rose Alice served as the hospital's first administrator from its opening in 1908 until her passing in 1939. Under her leadership, SJH went from an empty building to a thriving medical facility. Part visionary, part businesswoman, part leader, all linked together through a dogged perseverance and dedication, Sister Rose Alice was a stable force in what were often tumultuous times. The first Sister Rose Alice Award winner will be named at the SJH ArnotFest event on Wednesday, August 9.
