The Transformative Power of Spirituality
Sister Monice Weis presents on the life of Thomas Merton at the DUPC Sunday Forum
Sister Monica Weis continues to inspire individuals to explore and embrace the transformative power of spirituality through the multifaceted life of American Trappist monk, Thomas Merton. On Sunday, February 2, Sister Monica shared her deep knowledge and insights about Merton during a presentation at the Downtown United Presbyterian Church’s Sunday Forum. The DUPC Sunday Forum is open to the public and offers a range of topics and discussions relevant to the community.
During her talk, Sister Monica used photographs of various landscapes that were significant in Merton’s life, offering a rich, visual backdrop to her discussion. She provided an overview of his roles as a social activist, mystic, and scholar of comparative religions. She also demonstrated how Merton’s expansive spirituality, deeply rooted in contemplation and social justice, remains relevant today and can serve as a powerful model for personal spiritual growth.
