Sister Marie Susanne Hoffman
“My religious vocation began in a home where faith was central. Having two Jesuit uncles meant that priests and sisters were a constant presence in our house. Their love for God, their peace, and their joy made a lasting impression on me.
“My ministries have been wide-ranging. I taught primary, intermediate, and junior high at Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Anne before teaching history at St. Agnes High School. “I then began pastoral ministry by becoming a campus minister at The University of Rochester's Newman Community. Being part of the faith questions of young people and their search for ways to live that faith was deeply satisfying.
“The next phase of my ministry led me to become Pastoral Associate at St. Charles Borromeo and Corpus Christi and then Pastoral Administrator at St. Mary's Appalachin, Annunciation, Saints Peter and Paul, St. Augustine's, Our Lady of Good Counsel, and St. Monica's. After a brief time in migrant ministry in Brockport, I worked with colleges and high schools to encourage student involvement with Flower City Habitat for Humanity. I volunteered at St. Joseph’s Northside and in the Archives Office of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Currently, I am a chaplain at Monroe Community Hospital.
“In the course of these ministries I have lived with Sisters who are deeply caring and prayerful. I worked with wonderful people who have faced many challenges in a changing Church and challenging, wounded world. Their creativity, hard work, and deep faith in the abiding presence of God continue to be an inspiration. I know that our future is in the hands of a God who cares deeply for all of us.”
