Sister Mary Lisa Dwyer
“A Jubilee is a fitting time for celebration and looking back.
“I am very grateful for my years in education in Catholic schools–St. Monica’s, St. Michael’s Penn Yan, St. John the Evangelist in Greece, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Augustine, Nativity Preparatory Academy and now at Nazareth Elementary in the old Sacred Heart building where I also taught. I also have taught over 20 years in the Rochester City School District and had the privilege of working with both adults and child refugees and immigrants. All were eager to learn English and shared the SSJ charism of uniting God and neighbor. I entered the SSJs from the small city of Auburn, NY and have been given the world!
“In our vows statement we recite, ‘I ask your grace and the help of my Sisters in community to be faithful to this commitment...’ Certainly, these words have carried me throughout these 60 years.
“One of the greatest gifts I have been given is Ignatian spirituality where in the moments of awareness I recognize that God is in all the ‘stuff’ of our lives. When I forget, I walk outside and see God everywhere.”
