Sister Myra Monaghan
Sister Myra Monaghan taught at St. Anne, Rochester; St. Pius X, Rochester; St. Agnes, Avon; Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Rochester; and Genesis Catholic Junior High School, Rochester. On the occasion of her 50th Jubilee celebration in 2006, Sister Myra shared, “Occasionally my pupils would ask why I enjoyed Mondays so much. Actually it was they who made my day and helped enliven the classroom with their willingness to learn and be active participants in their education!”
Following her years in teaching, Sister Myra became one of the founding Sisters of Daystar which is New York State’s only Pediatric Complex Care and Learning Center for medically-fragile children. As a dedicated foster mother, she provided care and nurturance to infants and toddlers who were dealing with serious health issues. Years later, Sister Myra extended her care to the elderly population by serving in the former SSJ ministry Sisters Care.
Reflecting on her life as an SSJ during her 60th Jubilee in 2016, Sister Myra said, “For six decades in Community and Ministry as teacher, foster parent, rural ministry, and currently in Sisters' Care, I have been surrounded and nurtured by God's grace and each of you who have accompanied me and blessed my life, making for an enjoyable and fulfilling journey.”
