Welcoming the Holy

Opening Prayer
O God, Trinity in Unity, our minds and hearts cannot understand the mystery of your being. We are Your creatures; we believe Your word; we know Your guiding presence. We praise You for Your love and mercy and ask for the grace to persevere in love and fidelity to You. Praise to You Source of all Being. Word and Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Reading
Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus sends his disciples to make disciples of all nations.
Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Reflection
The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity invites us to remember that God has revealed God’s self to us as one God in three Persons. For many years I was challenged to fully understand the meaning of this feast, three persons in One? God as Father and Creator; God as Son who is manifested as a human like us; and God as the Holy Spirit. Perhaps one way of understanding the Trinity is to see this feast as a reflection of the many qualities of God; which is characterized by God’s love, expressed through community.
The 14th century icon or image below of the Trinity by the Russian artist, Rublev represents three persons of God around a table. Each person is the same, yet individually, they represent a different quality of God. We see the unity of the three, and at the same time, there is an open space so that others, like you and me, are welcomed to the table as well.
The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity offers us the opportunity to experience the many ways God is revealed to us; no matter where we might find ourselves. We can experience God as creator on a beautiful day. We experience Jesus in the Eucharist and at the same time we can experience God as expressed through another person, by their kind act or word. And we can experience God through the gifts of the Holy Spirit –
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of right judgment and courage
The spirit of knowledge and reverence
The spirit of wonder and awe in God’s presence
In order to see God, we need to be on the lookout for God and the many ways God is present to us every day, believing we each are welcomed to God’s table…
Closing Prayer
Sisters of Saint Joseph Prayer of the Double Trinity
God the Creator, You made us in Your image and likeness, May we respond to that gift of life and move toward fullness of love.
God the Son, you call all people to equality, May we imitate your self-emptying humility.
God the Holy Spirit, Your love liberated the world, May we be open to that love and share liberation with others.
Jesus, Savior of all, Infuse us with your zeal for your reign in heaven and on earth.
Mary, called to be Mother of God, always open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, May we live your fidelity to the movement of grace.
Joseph, given to us a patron, May we serve others as you served Jesus and Mary.
