Spotlighting a Critical Need

The SSJ Justice and Care for Creation Committee hosted an event at the Motherhouse on March 27 to help spotlight the critical need to keep Annunciation House in El Paso, TX open. Rochesterians Michael Brennan and Catherine Burke shared with Sisters and guests a presentation about the non-profit which provides food, shelter, clothing and other resources to migrants from Central America who are seeking asylum in the United States. The speaking event comes on the heels of recent attempts by Texas officials to shut down Annunciation House. 

Brennan and Burke have been volunteering intermittently at the shelters since 1985. Brennan served on the Board of Directors for six years, and he and Burke spent a year directing the largest AH shelter in 2019-2020. They have returned to El Paso twice a year since, most recently in February.

The two shared photos and stories of their personal experience working at the border and discussed the critical support of Annunciation House to those in need. They also implored those in attendance, many of whom have volunteered at the shelters, to do what they can to help keep the doors open.
