Sister Margaret Mancuso, our beloved Principal at Nazareth Elementary, is retiring. During her leadership of this SSJ ministry, Nazareth’s faith-filled curriculum was nurtured and strengthened. Numerous enrichment opportunities, and services to benefit Nazareth students and families were expanded.

When the SSJ Leadership Team asked Sister Margaret to become Principal, fourteen years ago, she took over the SSJ ministry during a critical juncture. Nazareth Academy had just closed, and Nazareth Hall (Elementary) was moved to the Academy building on Lake Avenue. The campus was sold in 2015 and in 2017 Nazareth Elementary was on the move again going from the Academy building to a new home at the former Sacred Heart School. “Sister Margaret handled that move seamlessly and all the other aspects of keeping the school alive and life-giving for the students and their families while supporting the faculty and staff,” praised the SSJ Leadership Team. "We offer her our sincere thanks for all she has done."

Before her time at Nazareth, Sister Margaret worked at several Diocesan Schools, including St. Francis-St. Stephen’s, Geneva; St. Mary’s, Dansville, and St. Joseph’s Villa as a teacher. She was also principal at Nativity Brockport before joining the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office as Assistant Superintendent.

Sister Margaret shared that she is leaving Nazareth in good hands. "We have a marvelous, professional, caring, faith-filled, and dedicated faculty and staff who stand tall on the shoulders of those before them. I have the greatest confidence in them and the many gifts they share with our children and families."

The Sisters of Saint Joseph expect to name a new principal at Nazareth Elementary in the upcoming weeks.
